Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.”
Blake E. Odum, candidate for Guilford County Board of Education, District 3, serves as the Founder and Executive Director of The Motivational Foundation, established in 2010 out of Flint, Michigan. For the past decade, his focus has been to equip our youth with tools for success, by way of exposure through travel, collegiate preparation, mentoring, and inspiring young people through the magic of education.
While serving the triad region, Blake has accomplished much, being named as "40 Under 40", one of the triad's most influential African Americans under the age of 40. Serving in public education through his organization, he has received the “Communities In Schools of High Point’s— Community Partner of the Year Award”, and most recently the “Guilford Education Alliance’s Spark Award” for his effective and impactful work with young people. While serving, both in High Point and Greensboro, Blake has amassed a strong reputation for leadership within the community. As a motivational speaker, he was invited to open as a preliminary speaker on behalf of Congressman John Lewis. More than anything, he is a community advocate, striving to give a voice to those who need to be heard the most. Blake has an influence on the evolving culture of public education, currently serving as the Youth Development Coordinator for Vandalia Elementary School. As a result of his activism in Greensboro, he was appointed to serve on the Board of Commissioners for the City of Greensboro’s Parks and Recreation Department by Councilwoman Dr. Goldie Wells and Mayor Pro-Tem Yvonne Johnson. Blake is motivated by the words of the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.: Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, “What are you doing for others?” |
